While browsing through a few of my daily design archive sites, I saw a few things posted from The Big Caption, which takes photos from The Big Picture and adds fun, witty typographic messages to these photos and i found most of them quite funny and clever, so would recommend people taking a look at them.

So I like the blog but the portfolio viewing is limited so I set out at the start of this week thinking about how I could improve this and what solutions would be best.
What I came up with today was a basic html based site that I can link up with this and use it to show my work off in a more intimate way, and it lets me have more freedom with the way the work is presented also.
So I give you: www.konn.co.uk/low/ or click the image

I have just added my recent work from the 2nd year of my degree, should of been added sooner but other things have taken a front seat BUT they are there now.
Includes:
» Graphic Evocation Posters
» Graphic Evocation Infomation Design
» Graphic Evocation Book
» Barnados Logo Design
» Self Promotion Overview
» Self Authored Magazine Project
» D&AD Book Cover Designs
All the projects went well, mostly (not you barnados brief) and i was satisfied with the overall outcome for them but i look back at them now and see what parts could of been made better and reasons why my submissions for D&AD and the Barnados brief didn’t quite do well enough to win.
So now the summer break is ahead of me and I have to get some plans sorted to keep myself creative, and keep in-design-shape ready for my internship at Ge Fabbri in August which I am looking forward too quite a bit, albeit with a great sense of nervousness and anxiety combined with a touch of excitement to actually see the real design world.
Danny.
Over the course of this year I set a few goals to improve on which consisted of time management, general organization and finding what route I wanted to go down, So throughout this year these have been my focuses and I am pleased with how well it went.
Overall my time management has significantly improved by just a few simple things as keeping a consistent sketchbook layout and a new system of organizing things within each module, as well as making sure every neccessary part of the module is up to date and on par with the rest as I progressed through the year.
So finding the route I wanted to take was quite simple as I’m not fond of illustrating although it is something I would want to boost in the future so at least I have an option of creating original illustrations if I wanted them, and I already have a strong sense of colour, layout and typography which is complimented by a love of magazines, books and other layout based design, which lead me down the route of editorial design as a focus and with the promise of an internship in August I will then see first hand if it is a route I want to pursue further.
GDP
I really enjoyed doing most of the projects associated with GDP this year, I found them very challenging at times and coming up with a solution that was creative yet suited the brief was a taste of things to come, and I’m looking forward to what I have learned this year helping me next year where it counts.
At times in the course of these projects and due to my unfortunate case of Apendicitus during the year I did fall behind and had to work very hard to catch up with everything, but I managed it and am pleased with all my outcomes this year but as ALWAYS there are the still things I would like to edit on each project that I never got the chance to.
Proffesional Practice
I found branding myself very difficult at first and I wasn’t sure how I should go about marketing myself in the correct manner, but this blog was a great idea for me as it is somewhere I can get my work seen and its also very cost effective and it helps me track my progress a lot easier than conventional methods.
The technical side of web design and scripting did give me some issue with an earlier version of the website being erased due to one altered code line and this was actually for the best as it helped me create a new minimalist style and colour branding that set the ball rolling for the rest of my self promotional project.
Critical Theory
The essay this year wasn’t something that I was looking forward too but once I decided on the topic and done some research into I found out a lot of stuff that I wanted to discuss to do with enviromental issues and how consumer culture is related to it. So during the essay I learned a lot about how consumer culture is have a really destructive impact on the planet and it did make me change how I lived certain parts of my life such as feeling guilty each time I eat grapes or strawberries out of season due to the import and chemical CO2 emissions.
I should of gave more time to essay but I had let stuff slide with the other projects and had to devote more time to polish them off before the essay which was near enough finished, it just needed final tweaks and harvard referencing and a few examples added which weren’t a big deal.
So in conclusion this year has been a step in the right direction for me and I have improved areas which greatly needed it, and my brand and route are a lot clearer now than they were at the start of this year.
